Terms of Service

Last updated: 7 September 2026

These Terms govern your use of olifer.org ("the Site"). By using the Site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who runs this, and what it is

The Site is operated by Denis Olifer ("the operator") as a private individual, and is published from Homelab — a personal home lab run for household and hobby purposes.

The Site is a personal, non-commercial blog. It is provided free of charge, as a hobby, for personal and household use. Specifically:

  • it is not a business, product, or commercial service;
  • it sells nothing and processes no payments;
  • it has no accounts, no registration, and no sign-up;
  • it makes no service-level promise of any kind;
  • it does not solicit or knowingly accept any confidential information.

The views expressed are the operator's own, and are not those of any employer, client, or other organisation, past or present.

2. Permitted use

You may read, link to, and quote from the Site.

You agree not to:

  • use the Site in any unlawful way, or to violate anyone's rights;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site or to any system, account, or network behind it, or to probe or test its security;
  • interfere with the Site's operation, including automated traffic heavy enough to degrade availability for others;
  • republish substantial portions of the Site's content as your own work.

The operator may restrict or block access to the Site at any time, for any reason, without notice.

3. Content and intellectual property

Unless a page states otherwise, the written content of the Site is © Denis Olifer. Code samples may be used under the MIT Licence.

Quoting with attribution and a link is permitted and welcome.

Third-party names, logos, and trademarks that appear on the Site remain the property of their owners and are used for identification only. Their appearance implies no affiliation with or endorsement by them.

4. No advice, and no warranty

The Site describes what worked for the operator at a particular moment. Software, services, and circumstances change, and what was accurate when written may be wrong now.

Nothing on the Site is professional, legal, financial, or security advice. Nothing on it creates any professional relationship between you and the operator.

THE SITE AND ALL OF ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator disclaims all warranties, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, and makes no warranty that the Site will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

You use anything you find here entirely at your own risk. Instructions that touch infrastructure, systems, credentials, or data can cause loss or damage if applied without understanding them. Test them somewhere that does not matter first, and keep your own backups.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator shall not be liable for any damages whatsoever — including direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, revenue, business, or goodwill — arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its content, whether based in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or any other theory, and whether or not the operator has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the minimum permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that may not lawfully be excluded.

6. Indemnity

You agree to hold the operator harmless from any claim arising out of your misuse of the Site or your breach of these Terms.

7. Availability

The Site runs on personal hardware as a hobby. It may be slow, intermittently unavailable, changed, or withdrawn entirely at any time, without notice and without obligation. No uptime, retention, or continuity is promised.

The Site links to and may embed content from other services. Those are not under the operator's control; their inclusion is not an endorsement, and their own terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them.

9. Privacy

The Site uses Umami, self-hosted on Homelab, for page-view analytics and for session recording on a sample of visits. It sets no cookies and uses no advertising or third-party marketing trackers.

The Site honours the Do Not Track browser signal, and you can turn analytics off — or back on — at any time using the switch in the footer of every page, which also shows whether they are currently running. See How to opt out. What is collected is described in full in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

10. Changes

These Terms may be updated at any time. The date at the top will change when they are, and continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of the current version.

11. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
